You are seeing a 10-year-old boy in A&E who has presented with a nosebleed. This patient’s mother reports that she has tried to stop the bleed herself by applying pressure to the soft part of the nose for over 30 minutes now, but it just won’t seem to stop. On examination you can see the bleeding point in the left nostril. You have done some observations and they are all within normal limits. What is the most appropriate second line treatment for this patient?
