You are seeing a 36-year-old female in a GP clinic who is complaining of intermittent tingling and numbness in distribution of the median nerve. The patient is also complaining that the pain is waking her up at night and that her hand feels weak. You examine the patient and note a sensory loss in the distribution of the median nerve and atrophy of the muscles in the thenar eminence. Phalen’s test is positive. What do you suspect the diagnosis to be?
